Why PEACE?

Previously two separate campus ministries at the University of Delaware, a group of Presbyterians and Episcopalians gathered together to dream a new vision of what campus ministry might look like in a post-pandemic world. What emerged was a shared vision for cultivating a beloved community where students at UD feel seen, heard, and are reminded that they are welcomed and belong at Christ’s table. Those who gathered created the acronym PEACE — Presbyterian Episcopalian Alliance for Campus Engagement

What We Believe

The PEACE Center fosters a welcoming environment by offering a sacred space for Bible study and spiritual exploration. Our community encourages intellectual curiosity through a faith-based perspective, drawing upon the Presbyterian and Episcopalian traditions, promoting an open and respectful dialogue among different viewpoints. Our dedication to compassion and hospitality reflects our mission to "love because God first loved us” (1 John 4:19). The overarching message and mission of the PEACE Center to the larger UD community will stem from a belief in the unconditional love of each person because they are created in the image of God, not for what they can produce or the ideologies they conform to. It is our hope, then, that UD and the larger Newark, DE community would regularly receive from the PEACE Center messages of love, welcome, and belonging that Jesus taught us.
